Class Is Now In Session

37 days and counting!

J starts his class today. It’s called “Career Technologies”. Not sure what that’s all about, but I’m sure I’ll find out. It’s a 20-day class, Monday thru Friday, from 8:00 til 2:30. Should keep him busy to help these last days go by faster. It’s also worth 10 days of good time, but he won’t get the whole 10 days cuz he won’t have 10 days left. He may end up out of there a couple of days earlier though. I’m not counting on it tho, because you never know what the state of Illinois is gonna do.

  1. A step forward, no matter how small, give me a little bit of hope for my son. And sometimes it is just a small bit of hope that makes all the difference. Hoping it all goes smoothly.

  2. Don’t put too much hope in the classes in prison. They are very superficial, just so the state can say it’s doing something…but it’s better than sitting around playing cards, I guess.

The real work starts when they get out. Don’t know if you are familiar with Pell grants, they are easy to apply for online. My son has been going to school on that for awhile, it’s been a blessing. It helped him get “orientated” back in the real world after he got out of prison.

Best of luck to your son. My son has over a year clean now, but we (the family) have been very supportive. His friends who did not have family support are all back in prison.

  3. Lou is a wealth of info! I had heard of Pell Grants but had no idea what they were. I can imagine you must be excited mixed with a bit of nervousness. I am going to think positive and can’t wait to hear good things about J’s progress when he gets out. Again what Lou said – he has the most important thing of all on his side: a loving family, a supportive mom 🙂
